DesBrisay Museum hosting memoir workshop

Many of us have long given thought to taking the time to write down our thoughts, memories and experiences in an effort to capture the essence of our existence. But taking on the task of writing one's memoirs can seem overwhelming and many would-be writers need help figuring out where to begin.

If you fall into that category, you'll want to take note of an upcoming workshop that the DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater will be presenting with award-winning writer Marjorie Simmins.

Ms Simmins is something of a writing expert, having written professionally, and served as an editor and writing instructor, since 1991.

The four-hour session is designed to give you the information you need to start the process of memoir writing. Participants will also receive a booklet on the subject, titled "You Did It Your Way," which includes several templates to help you get started on your memoirs.

The workshop is designed for all ages and open to people with different backgrounds and writing experiences.

Anyone interested in enrolling should have a strong desire to capture their own life stories in their own words.

The workshop will be presented as a lecture, with small- and large-group discussion incorporated to maximize the value of the experience.

The workshop will take place on April 4, from 1 to 5 p.m., and there is a fee.

Participants who complete a pre-workshop questionnaire and submit it to the instructor by March 24 will be eligible to win a copy of "Angela's Ashes," the best-selling memoir by Frank McCourt.

No more than 20 participants will be accepted and interested parties should register by no later than February 20.

For more information about the course, or to register, contact DesBrisay Museum program officer Kendra Power at 543-4033.
