Spinney Brothers to release new CD at Park View concert![]() Members of the Spinney Brothers Bluegrass Band are, from left, Terry Mumford, Allan Spinney, Rick Spinney (front) and Gary Dalrymple. Bluegrass music will be ringing loud and clear at Park View Education Centre April 5 at 2 p.m. The Spinney Brothers Bluegrass Band will be in concert and releasing their latest CD, "When the Golden Leaves Begin to Fall."
Allan and Rick Spinney, who call Wolfville home, have been at the forefront of the Atlantic Canadian bluegrass scene for well over a decade. Along with bandmates Gary Dalrymple and Terry Mumford, the Spinneys have maintained a very busy recording schedule in recent years. This is their fourth studio recording in five years. The Spinneys not only have acquired a reputation of being prolific recording artists, but are also becoming known as musicians who produce a very high quality of recorded music. Their eye for detail and stellar performances captured the attention of Nashville musician, producer and engineer Ron Stewart. Mr. Stewart is a highly sought after veteran of the bluegrass recording industry in Nashville. He had been involved with the Spinneys' previous recordings as a session player. However, this past November, he came to Nova Scotia to play a much larger role in the Spinneys' latest recording. In addition to producing the sessions, Mr. Stewart recorded and mixed the project. As an added bonus for those attending the April 5 CD release concert, the Spinney Brothers are pleased to have Mr. Stewart returning as their special guest and guest fiddler for the concert. In addition to making music in the recording studio, the Spinney Brothers have kept a very active touring schedule in recent months. They have been in concert with the likes of country and bluegrass great Ricky Skaggs and the Grammy nominated Cherryholmes, and have shared the same billing with bluegrass legends such as Del McCoury, Larry Sparks and Bobby Osborne. The Spinneys have travelled all across Canada and throughout the United States. Recent tours have taken them to Ontario, Quebec, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Arizona, New York and Texas. Upcoming months will see them make their first appearances in Saskatchewan and Wyoming. This is all while keeping a busy Atlantic Canada schedule. The Spinney Brothers were recognized for all their hard work this past October at the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Awards show in Truro. The Spinneys took home five awards including Male Vocalist of the Year (Allan Spinney), Guitar Player of the Year (Allan Spinney), Recording of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year. As well, the Spinney Brothers were awarded the much-coveted Band of the Year Award. The Spinneys' new release includes the original composition "I Pray to God." This was written in memory of Karissa Boudreau. The tragic story of the young Bridgewater girl captured the hearts of Nova Scotians this past year. The Spinneys performed "I Pray to God" at the candlelight memorial service for Karissa this past January.
