This is my response to Darrell Tingley's letter published April 14 in the Bridgewater Bulletin, which I personally found insulting.

 Guest speakers are chosen because they are well-known. Love him or hate him, Mike Duffy inspired your letter to the editor.

 The NSPC party invited Senator Duffy to be the guest speaker, therefore all expenses were paid by the local membership, not the taxpayers of Canada.

 A delicious turkey dinner was enjoyed by well over 200 people. Senator Duffy's talk was informative and entertaining.

 His gift was a donation to our local food bank, by his request.

 I'm sorry you missed a very pleasant evening.
