Cruising on the Castleby Robert Hirtle![]() The Lunenburg-built Bounty was a crowd favourite. The port of Lunenburg was well and proudly represented as a flotilla of 43 tall ships, basking in sunshine and above-normal temperatures, paraded around Halifax harbour July 20 in the grand finale of Tall Ships Nova Scotia Festival 2009.
Lunenburg-based vessels taking part in the event included Nova Scotia's floating ambassador, Bluenose II, which led the parade and was joined by the globe-trotting barque Picton Castle and the barquentine Concordia, flagship vessel of West Island College Class Afloat. Also taking part was the Lunenburg-built Bounty, which was launched from the Smith and Rhuland Shipyard in the early 1960s and now sails out of Long Island, New York. Thousands of spectators lined the shores of Halifax harbour to view the spectacle before the ships departed in mid-afternoon for their next ports of call. posted on 07/28/09 |
