Pair charged with assaultWoman in serious condition after being struck with piece of woodby Lisa Brown CHESTER - Two men were arrested late August 20 after a woman was struck in the head and seriously injured on the government wharf in Chester.
Mounties responded to four 911 calls Thursday around 10:30 p.m. They determined that a 49-year-old woman had been hit with a piece of wood. She was taken to South Shore Regional Hospital and later transferred to the QEII in Halifax in serious condition. She remained there in serious but stable condition Saturday. Police said their initial investigation suggested the woman was intervening in a dispute between a group of men and her husband when she was hurt. The men were arrested nearby and spent the weekend in jail. They were scheduled to appear in Bridgewater provincial court Monday. Joel Ray Meister, 26, and Chad Wesley Swinimer, 28, face charges of assault, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and assault causing bodily harm. posted on 08/25/09 |
