Birdies and Bogies

By Gwen Reed

I was saddened by the death of Patrick Swayze. So athletic and such a wonderful dancer - who wouldn't want him for a bit of "Dirty Dancing"?

Yet, fit as he was, disease got its slimy fingers into him which made me think - is pushing oneself to extremes in the quest of fitness, or that great body, healthy? Stretch an elastic too much and it will snap.

Do you ever see animals doing push- ups? Their exercise is doing what comes naturally and they romp around, like man did thousands of years ago before he invented the car. So now, I'm not pulling any more muscles or busting my butt in the name of golf; I'll be content staying fit enough!  Now, down to business.

Ladies' Day: September 17, 12 players went out to play.

Closest to # 10 hole, Shirley Kirk.

Putts, Theresa Getson 28, Maxine Lee, 31.

 Draw prize, Maureen MacPherson.

Soup and Sandwich: Lucky draw #1, John Oyler, Peter Connell.

Draw #2, Don Robertson, Bruce Stoddart, Laurie Martin, Ivan Rhodenizer.

Closest to #10 hole, David Herman.

 Closest to #17, Earl Lantz.

Closing date is October 8. Play golf at 8:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 1:30 p.m.

Here we are, starting with that word "closing." Gee, we've hardly started!

Regarding beautification, 21 crimson red maples have been planted along the entrance road and around the club this year in phase 1 and we applaud the generous donors and helpers and of course, Marilyn Branson for this reality. The sedum at the entrance sign gives a nice splash of colour to the grey stone, doesn't it?

After the ladies' scramble on September 24, there will be a meeting which we are urged to attend to discuss, among other things, next year's agenda. The closing lunch, like the men's, is on October 8.

The Rotary club was holding their golf tournament on September 17. I was talking to Don, one of the organizers, and he was telling me how much this organization does for this community and everywhere. We don't realize how much good goes on in this town of ours.

Ann, have a great time in Prince Edward Island! Ivan told me a couple more jokes today, but again, I can't pass them on!

 Have a good week.

 - Adios!
