Engineering tenders awardedby Robert Hirtle LUNENBURG - Council has chosen Terrain Group as the firm that will handle engineering services on two upcoming capital projects.
Terrain group was chosen out of six other bidders for the work, which will involve design and construction supervision for the widening of the shoulder on Green Street and the installation of new water and sewer lines on Kaulback Street between Lawrence Street and Bluenose Drive. Total cost of the Green Street work is expected to be around $101,700, with up to $61,500 of the final figure being covered by the province. The $832,000 Kaulback Street project will be partly funded the Building Canada Fund, with town taxpayers being responsible for $277,333 or one-third of the cost of the work. The Green Street upgrade must be completed by March 2010, while the Kaulback Street improvements have to be wrapped up by March, 2011. Council has had the Green Street upgrades on their to-do list since 2007 when a study raised concerns over pedestrian safety in the area. Their first request for funding from the province was denied, however the province later recanted and approved a second request due to the area's location which is close to the new provincial building that opened in 2008. While the Terrain Group tender was the third highest of the seven proposals, town engineer Marc Belliveau said theirs was the most complete "with the best level of effort proposed and the most qualified personnel." posted on 10/13/09 |
