Mersey Band to present music from the big band era Members of Liverpool's Mersey Band will be trading their peaked marching caps for chef hats to host a roast pork dinner and evening of music November 7.
The dinner will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #38, on Henry Hensey Drive, Liverpool with the bar opening at 5:30 p.m. for a 6 p.m. meal. Following dessert, small ensembles made up of instrumentalists from the big, 35-member band will focus on the music of bandleaders like Glenn Miller and Les Brown. Performing will be the Privateers Brass, Privateers Winds and a youth group. The musical repertoire will include numbers such as Glenn Miller's big band era hits "In The Mood" and "Tuxedo Junction," Brown's "Sentimental Journey," George Gershwin's "Summertime" and Frank Sinatra's driving ballad "New York, New York."
