Triathlon club hands out awards

Last month, the Bridgewater Triathlon Club held its end of the season get-together to thank volunteers, exchange stories and engage in the fourth triathlon discipline - eating - while announcing the winners of its two new club awards.

First up was the Warrior Award for participating in the most of races. It went to Dion McKay, with an incredible 31 races between January and October.

The second award went to the male and female members who recorded the most points in their three best races. The top female was Janelle Knickle and the top male was Liam Patterson. Congratulations to the winners and all the participants.

Racing is optional, but over 70 per cent of club members competed in at least one event and one third finished 10 or more races in 2009.

Meanwhile, the club hosted the final event on the provincial race calendar during the first weekend in October. The fourth annual Riverport Duathlon drew a near-record crowd despite a dreary weather forecast.

Fortunately, the stormy weather held off until after the race had finished and the participants were inside enjoying a post-race meal and award ceremony.

The club was very lucky to get wonderful support for this event from local sponsors, volunteers and supporters.

The annual general meeting takes place in November and will conclude the club activities for 2009.

At this time of the year, many members take some well deserved downtime. Its also an opportunity to reflect on the results from this year and start planning for next.

Perhaps triathlon is on your to-do list for 2010?
