Town considers contract to get website up and runningby Lisa Brown MAHONE BAY - With its website now half a year behind schedule and no recent signs of progress, Mahone Bay is considering hiring someone to get it up and running.
Deputy Mayor Dave Devenne made the suggestion at a town council meeting on November 10. The deputy mayor is the chairman of the ad hoc committee which spent nearly a year developing the website. The goal is to provide citizens with comprehensive, accessible information on town matters. The initial target date for the site to go on-line was April 1 of this year. While much of the work is done, town staff has not had the time to fill in the remaining information. Deputy Mayor Devenne suggested the town hire the person who helped the committee with the website design work to complete it. "There are information pieces that need to be added," the deputy mayor said. Council agreed the committee should meet again to finalize what needs to be done. Members can then talk with the designer to determine how much it would cost to do the work. "I think we need to get it done," Mayor Joe Feeney said. Deputy Mayor Devenne agreed, saying the lack of a website was discussed by those gathered for a recent sustainability session. "There was a lot of discussion about information sharing, citizens being aware, citizens having access to information about the town and town hall, and the lack of a website was seen as a real detriment," he said. posted on 11/17/09 |
