Last week, council approved a $500 grant to support seven members of the Lunenburg Pathfinders group and their two leaders who have been selected to travel to Toronto in January as the official Nova Scotia representatives at the Girl Guides of Canada 100th anniversary launch party.
Leader Tara Green told council the group had only recently found out about their selection and have been working diligently ever since to try and raise the $4,500 they need to make the trip.
She did not ask council for a specific amount of money, only that they consider donating whatever they could to the cause.
Under ordinary circumstances, the Pathfinders' request would be referred to the budget process. However, due to the urgency of the situation, council elected to handle it during their November 24 meeting.
Council also agreed the town will provide the girls with a collection of Lunenburg pins and literature which they can distribute at the event to help promote the town.
