ABCO sells turbocharging service branch to Swiss-based firm

by Robert Hirtle

ABCO Industries of Lunenburg has sold its turbocharging service activities to ABB Group of Baden, Switzerland.
LUNENBURG - ABCO Industries of Lunenburg has sold its turbocharging service activities to Swiss-based ABB Group.

The announcement was made by ABB officials in Montreal February 15 and no terms of the deal were disclosed.

ABCO had been serving as the approved and licenced service station for ABB Turbocharging Service in Atlantic Canada prior to the acquisition, which company officials said will now allow customers in the region to have direct access to ABB's full range of turbocharger service offerings.

ABB confirmed in a press release that the new Lunenburg branch of the firm will remain in town, moving into a larger facility with an expanded workshop operating with a full line of the latest service, tooling and test equipment, as well as a spare-parts inventory.

John Caron, who serves as the head of ABB's Canadian service business said the company is delighted to add this "well-managed" business to their portfolio.

"Over the years, ABCO has earned a reputation for providing superior service to its customers," he said. "Our goal is to build on this tradition of excellence by leveraging our global turbocharging capabilities as part of ABB's Global Turbocharging Service network."

ABCO Industries president John Meisner said he is confident their customers will be well-supported by ABB, "an international company with a world-class reputation for technology and innovation.

"I know our skilled and dedicated team will continue to provide unparalleled support to Atlantic Canada customers," he said.

ABB operates over 100 turbocharger service stations in more than 55 countries around the world, all linked via an on-line network to the company's headquarters in Baden, Switzerland.

That allows for direct access to case histories of more than 180,000 turbochargers, ensuring proactive support in real time on a 24-hour-a-day basis.

The company employs about 120,000 people globally, including over 2300 at 43 facilities across Canada.
