Teen wants jury to hear attempted murder caseby Lisa Brown BRIDGEWATER - A Bridgewater teen charged with attempted murder in connection with an April stabbing wants a Supreme Court judge and jury to decide his guilt or innocence.
That was the method of trial which the 16 year old chose when he was back in court June 9. Unlike his first two court appearances when young people packed the courtroom, only a handful of supporters, including the boy's mother, showed up last Wednesday. Dressed in jeans and a black T-shirt, the teen sat quietly as legal aid lawyer Cathy Benton entered the election on his behalf. He cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The teen agreed to remain in custody at the Nova Scotia Youth Facility in Waterville, where he has been since his April arrest, until a preliminary hearing now scheduled for August 12. Police say the boy was at a party at a home on the Demont Road in Chester Basin early April 18 when an argument broke out and moved outside. The teen is accused of stabbing an 18 year old multiple times. He faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a weapon and breaching probation. posted on 06/15/10 |
