LaHave Folk Festival set for September 5

by Robert Hirtle

An impressive lineup of talent is set to take centre stage for the fifth annual LaHave Folk Festival, set for historic Fort Point Museum in LaHave September 5.

Local singer-songwriter Darren Arsenault, one of the event's organizers and performing talents, says over a dozen acts have signed on for the day-long festival, which kicks off with a song circle beginning at 1 p.m.

"We're very proud to be presenting it," he says. "It's a fundraiser for the Fort Point Museum and it's just a great little festival. Anybody who's come to it always comes back and enjoys it."

This year's list of entertainers includes Jazette, Nick Jeffrey, Cut, Split and Delivered, Rob Muise, Mike Aube, Collage, Mike Trask, Heather Kelday, Shirley Jackson, Andy and Ariana, The Hupman Brothers, the Jamie Junger Band, the group Naming the Twins and, of course, Mr. Arsenault himself who recently released his new blues CD at the Dutch Mason Festival and will be departing on a 36-gig, cross-country tour September 13.

"Later on in the evening it's going to be kind of more danceable," Mr. Arsenault explains. "We've got a great big dance floor out in front of the stage this year."

The full day of music wraps up at 9:30 p.m. with an all-inclusive jam session which Mr. Arsenault says "includes the whole family" and "will go on until whenever."

Single tickets and family passes are available at the door as well as at regular local ticket outlets.
