Dessert fundraiser supports DesBrisay Museum

Picture yourself and your friends at an elegantly dressed table amidst delectable desserts, silver spoons, china cups and scented nosegays.

Brenda Fitzgerald and Eldon Cooper are playing old English folk music in the background. You are enjoying Ada's Dessert Party, taking place at DesBrisay Museum, September 12 from 2 to 4 p.m.

This elegant dessert party is named for Ada Adams Harley DesBrisay, who lived with her husband the judge at the prestigious address of 55 Pleasant Street, in an elegant home called Ivy Banks.

Described as a lady of "sterling character and high ideals," Ada hosted many teas and parties during her time.

Ada's Dessert Party is an annual fundraiser for DesBrisay Museum. Tickets include dessert, coffee or tea and an afternoon of social interaction, entertainment and door prizes.

An addition to this year's dessert party is "That Takes the Cake," a competition among local organizations for the most creative cake entry. These cakes will be on display during the tea, and auctioned off at 4 p.m.

All proceeds from Ada's Dessert Party and That Takes the Cake competition will be used to enhance museum programming.

DesBrisay Museum has operated as a public community history museum since 1902, and is owned by the Town of Bridgewater. The museum is committed to enriching our community by providing meaningful experiences that build understanding, knowledge and pride in our past and present way of life.
