Resents being lumped in with NDP The last sentence in Gordon Earle's August 31 letter ("Government must protect our pensions") was astonishing. He wrote, "That is what I believe, that is what New Democrats believe and that is what the people of Nova Scotia believe."
I didn't vote for Mr. Earle in the last federal election and I won't vote for him in the next one. For him to wrap all Nova Scotians in one big blanket and say we all agree with the NDP is the height of arrogance. I, for one, think there are more important issues to deal with than ensuring that former employees of bankrupt companies get a minimum pension of $2,500 per month. A minimum wage earner doesn't earn that much working 40 hours a week. Maybe he should ask non-unionized employees how concerned they are about that issue. These people don't have a chance to contribute to a pension plan. When they lose their jobs or get beyond the stage where they are capable of working they are on their own. It would have been nice if Mr. Earle had written a letter in support of the CAT employees and everyone else affected by the NDP abandoning the Yarmouth ferry. Where was his concern and where was his letter when they lost their jobs? Mr. Earle, there are many Nova Scotians who don't have the same beliefs that you and the NDP have. In the future, please don't say that we do. Janet Corkum posted on 09/07/10 |
