The NDP government is planning a $10 million connector road in St. Margarets Bay that could pave over homes and harm the environment. It is something the community does not want.

 One of the homes at risk is our house, a historical home that was built in 1864 as a one-room schoolhouse for aboriginals and was once also a church. Our house is older than Canada. It has survived two world wars, the Great Depression, the nuclear arms race and Hurricane Juan, but it might not survive the connector road.

 Instead of destroying homes and harming our community, the government should spend the $10 million on upgrading highways and preventing additional tragedies such as the recent deaths on Highway 104. Saving lives is more important than building a two-minute shortcut.

 The NDP promised a "better deal" for families in the last campaign. Paving over homes and uprooting families doesn't sound like a better deal to us.
