The South Shore Traffic Unit will be dedicating more enforcement efforts to monitor speeding in school zones in the coming weeks.
As such, motorists are urged to get back in the habit of slowing down for school zones when classes are in session and to be sure to stop for school buses picking up or dropping off students.
A person convicted of an offence for driving at a speed that exceeds 50 km/h in a designated school zone faces a minimum fine of $455.21, four points added to the driver's record and a seven-day suspension of his or her driver's licence.
A conviction for failing to stop for a school bus with its flashing red lights active carries a minimum fine of $397.71, six points added to the driver's record and a seven-day suspension of the driver's licence.
The ramping up of enforcement follows on the heels of a busy August for the South Shore Traffic Unit - particularly when it comes to seatbelt infractions.
