Lunenburg streets, buildings, to receive upgradesby Robert Hirtle LUNENBURG - Council has approved tenders that will pave the way for improvements to be made to a trio of town streets and a pair of publicly owned buildings.
Last week a tender in the amount of $24,600 plus HST was awarded to Dexter Construction for chip sealing Schwartz Street. LaHave Paving at $36,360.35 was the lowest of three bids tendered for the reconstruction of both Fox and York streets in the area between Hopson and Kempt streets. Based on prices quoted two years ago, council had budgeted $70,000 for the Schwartz Street upgrades and $80,000 for the work on York and Fox streets. Since the two projects came in well under what had originally been budgeted, council also acted on a recommendation from town engineer Marc Belliveau that a section of Lawrence Street between Cornwallis and Duke streets be reconstructed. The cost of that project, which was identified in the town's 10-year capital plan as a priority for 2011, is $27,003.41. Tenders were also accepted for the shingling of roofs on two town-owned buildings, the armouries and the blue exhibition building. Nauss Brothers Contracting Ltd. of Bridgewater was the winning bidder on the armouries project with a tender of $21,925, while Willfield Ltd., also of Bridgewater, was awarded the exhibition tender with a bid of $37,161. Council had budgeted $35,000 for the former project and $50,000 for the latter during their deliberations earlier this year. posted on 09/07/10 |
