Near no-no highlights week of mixed softball

Things are slowly grinding to a close in the Bridgewater and Area Mixed Softball League, but last week wasn't without its fun times and key games.

Bowlarama and the Freaks split their games, with Bowlarama pitcher Kim "Kimigirl" Veinotte tossing a one-hitter in that team's win.

Lighthouse Media Group and Charlie's Pizza split their contests in a pair of fun-filled affairs.

Bridgewater Insurance and Joudrey's Automotive Misfits split, while Superior took both games against the Boston Pizza Sociables.

Northfield Home Heating took one from Oickle's Enviro Depot and tied the second. Jill Mossman was solid filling in for Liz Dylan, who is out for the year with an injury.

And, finally, the Renegades snagged both games from the Image Design Braves.

The results mean the overall standings are as follows:

The Freaks and Renegades continue to sit first and second in the league.

Bowlarama and Superior Rain Gutter are tied for third with identical 20-8-2 records on the year.

Image Design is locked in fifth place and they are followed by Charlie's Pizza, Joudrey's Automotive, Boston Pizza, Oickle's Enviro Depot, Lighthouse Media Group, Northfield Home Heating and Bridgewater Insurance.

The final week of regular-season action will feature a couple of interesting hookups.

In the battle for third place, Superior Rain Gutter will go head-to-head with the second-place Renegades on Field 3 at the MARC.

Meanwhile, Bowlarama will visit with Northfield Home Heating at Mahone Bay in a game that could also have third-place implications.

Elsewhere, Image Design and Bridgewater Insurance will play at LaHave Street Field, while Boston Pizza will play the Freaks at Michelin Field.

On Field 1 at the MARC, Charlie's Pizza will visit with the Misfits and, on Field 2, the Oickle's Enviro Depot Naturals will visit with Lighthouse Media Group.

The closing tournament and playoff is slated to take place on September 17, 18 and 19. The Friday night game will be the opening game of the tournament for each team, with round-robin play continuing on Saturday and playoff action on Sunday.
