Take the roof off Card Lake Parkby Adam Jacobs If you've ever wanted to try snowshoeing, then you want to go to Card Lake Park on February 6.
The Card Lake group is welcoming anyone to come for a snowshoe tour of the park, complete with guided walks, hot chocolate and a campfire. Snowshoes will be provided. "This is an opportunity to get some winter exercise and spend a day outside," said Brad Armstrong, a member of the group. "It's all part of the Take the Roof off Winter event." Those who wish to visit the park are welcome to come by any time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Card Lake Park is located on Highway 14 just before the Kaizer Meadow Environmental Management Centre if coming from Chester. Jody Conrad, who is co-ordinating the local Take the Roof off Winter events, will also be providing some basic winter survival tips. "Kids love this stuff," Mr. Armstrong said. "It's great for them to learn about and it's great for them to be out in nature." The Card Lake group is responsible for the rebirth of the park, which took place over several years before reopening in the mid-2000s. Now, the park is open year-round to users. "I've asked the municipality to plow the road to the park in the winter so people can get there," Mr. Armstrong said. "And I must say, people have been using it." posted on 02/01/11 |
