Song 'Heaven's Open Arms' remembers Swissair tragedy

Contributed

COUNTY - September 2 marks the anniversary of the Swissair Flight 111 crash off the coast of Peggy's Cove. The song Heaven's Open Arms was written as a tribute to the families of the victims of the crash.

Heaven's Open Arms has been recorded and is performed by Donna Taylor, Wendy LaPierre and Andy Duinker who make up the professional vocal trio, DonnaWendyAndy. This Nova Scotian group performs original, traditional and Maritime material with their signature three-part harmonies. They have recently completed their second full-length recording entitled Ship of Dreams being released in September. It is a collection of songs aimed at the adult contemporary audience, and it includes several original works penned by members of the group. Heaven's Open Arms was written by Donna Rhodenizer Taylor and Andy Duinker.

Maritimers and people around the world have shared and grieved with the families dealing with the Flight 111 tragedy. Heaven's Open Arms has been helpful in expressing the emotions and sense of loss which have been experienced by all those involved in any way with this event. The song will also have special meaning for those who volunteered their time to assist in various ways during the disaster.

Plans for ongoing financial support for search and rescue organizations are being made by DonnaWendyAndy. A portion of each internet sale of the Ship Of Dreams recording will be donated back to those organizations involved in rescue operations and emergencies like the Swissair crash. Purchasers may choose the charitable organizations to which their donation is to be directed.

The Flight 111 Secretariat has approved the Ship Of Dreams recording and has given permission to distribute a copy of the CD, free of charge, to each one of the families of the Flight 111 tragedy. The families will receive their CD when they return to Halifax for the anniversary memorial services August 31 through September 2.
