Principal reacts to murder of 12-year-old girlposted on 02/14/08Shortly after a police announced missing 12-year-old girl Karissa Boudreau had been murdered, school administrators held a press conference in Bridgewater on February 14. Bridgewater elementary principal Mark MacLeod said the school's thoughts and prayers were with everyone who loved and cared for Karissa and that students were notified by their teachers shortly after news of her murder was made public at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the school will be offering professional counselling services to students and parents on Friday, but otherwise, the day will be as close to normal as possible. He said the school already has a thorough policy in place to ensure the safety of its students, and he does not plan to take any extra precautions in light of the recent developments. Karissa was a Grade 6 student who had moved to Bridgewater last fall. A critical incident team of administrators, teachers, guidance counsellors and other professionals such as school psychologists has been active at the school since her disappearance on January 27.
