Islands preserved by Nature Trustposted on 07/22/10The Nova Scotia Nature Trust has announced the permanent protection of Great and Selig Islands, which are both off the coast from Cherry Hill. At 300 acres, Great Island is the largest ever protected on mainland Nova Scotia. The properties were acquired through a part sale, part donation from Bill Zimmerman and Susan Hauer. "Nova Scotians care deeply about our coast, and many worry about its future," said Executive Director, Bonnie Sutherland. "Yet with most of our coast in private ownership, saving our treasured coastal legacy relies on visionary and forward-thinking landowners like the Zimmerman/Hauer family. Today we are celebrating their inspiring leadership as good stewards of our coast." <- go back to SouthShoreNow.ca |
