Hubbards![]() The very existence of Hubbards defines the concept of a border community. Located partially in Halifax County and partially in Lunenburg County, Hubbards was first settled around the turn of the 19th century. John Arenburg received a grant for some 650 acres of land in the area in 1790 and that land was deeded to Gotlieb Harnish upon the former's passing. Harnish remains a very common name in Hubbards today and it was the Harnish family who founded and still operate Hubbards' famed Shore Club. For many decades, Hubbards was one of the many active fishing communities here on the South Shore. The Canadian military station at nearby Mill Cove helped boost Hubbards' prominence as a service centre for the area for several years, until the station was closed in the 1990s. Today, Hubbards' picturesque beauty, nearby access to beaches and wealth of cultural and artistic talent make the community a captivating vacation destination. With nearly equal distance to the hubs of Halifax and Bridgewater, Hubbards is perfectly situated between the two centres and an ideal getaway for travellers from near or afar.
