Petite Riviere and Green BayThe communities of Petite Riviere and Green Bay are positively steeped in a history that the residents love to embrace. The region was first put on the map, so to speak, when explorer and cartographer Samuel de Champlain and the crew of his vessel, the Don de Dieu, anchored for four days beginning in Green Bay on May 8, 1604. In the years to follow, French settlers populated the hillsides in small numbers until the mid-18th century when the British took firm control of Nova Scotia and began populating it with settlers loyal to the British Crown. Two families led by Benjamin Harrington and James Parks were among the early English settlers in the region. Today, Green Bay and Petite Riviere serve as excellent vacation destinations for those from both near and far. In addition to a vibrant, enthusiastic community of full-time residents, Petite Riviere and Green Bay also combine luxurious beaches with historically interesting sites, such as the old Mi'kmaq/Acadian burial ground near Sperry's Beach. These communities have plenty to offer vacationers and travellers.
