
On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 an catastrophic earthquake devastated Haiti. The 7.0 M earthquake and it's 33 aftershocks left 200,000 dead, 250,000 injured and 1 million people homeless. Because the organizational structures in Haiti had been destroyed, Elisabeth Byrs of the UN called it the worst disaster the United Nations had ever experienced.

Globally, communities are coming together to offer their support as individuals, businesses or by hosting community fundraising events. Monies are being donated to the Canadian Red Cross and the Humanitarian Coalition ( Care, Oxfam and Save the Children ).
