My name is Brittany McKinnon and I am entering this contest because I believe I have the best mom in the world. She has truly outdone herself time and time again and sometimes I just sit back and wonder how she balances everything in her life. She was a single mom to myself and my brother while working fulltime and taking care of the usual daily duties at home - inside the house, and outside the house. She did everything by herself with little or no help at all. More recently, her husband (partner at the time) fell down their steps in the house and broke his neck. She was by his side in the Halifax hospital whenever she could get the time off work in Liverpool. They made their love final by marrying each other last summer, which was obviously very emotional for everyone as her husband was just regaining his strength to walk again. She continues to care for him every day, still working full time, as he has to be tube-fed and cannot enjoy life’s simply luxuries as most of us take for granted in our day to day lives. I have recently split from my former fiancé and had struggled for months with money, childcare, etc., and my mother was the first person to jump to my needs. She would never see me go without and I honestly would have been living on the street with my daughter if it wasn’t for her help and guidance. She doesn’t make a lot of money but she ensured that my bills were paid and that I had food on the table. She truly is a gift. She’s the nicest, most sincere, genuine, sweet, happy person that I’ve ever met in my life. If I am ever half the mother to my daughter that she is to me, I will know that I have accomplished something great. So needless to say, I think my mother deserves a day (or even an hour) to herself as she so selflessly donates her time to everyone surrounding her. She deserves this fantastic makeover prize, just so that she could relax for a while.

My name is Charlie and I'm writing you on behalf of the most deserving winner of diiva for the day, my wife. Sixteen months ago she became a mother and since then she has not taken a single moment for herself. Between the doctor visits for our son during his difficulties, taking care of all his needs and wellbeing. The restrictive diets during breast feeding. The days alone during my 12 and 14 yr days, she has never complained, but more so been strong and nurturing in raising our son and taking care of or family. Not only has it been tough with our sons problems but she too has been battling with issues herself, and continues to do so. Medical staff has not been able to firgure the cause or remedy, in doing so she has had to research herself and has done her best to relieve the pain. Throughout she has not slowed down and I truly believe that it is her turn, if only for a day, a well deserved break and a make over. Sometimes something a simple as a make over can make you feel refreshed, new and better about oneself. Doing so may go along way for recovery. To see her get a chance for a day for herself, I know, would make us all truly grateful. I could never thank her enough, I tell her I love every day, but perhaps with your help I could give a day she deserves.
Charlie

Maddy

I would like to nominate myself for Diva for the Day!! I have never done anything like this before. I have watched MANY episodes of What not to wear and wish Stacey and Clinton would show up at my house - so I figure this would be the next best option. I have made some changes over the years but always feel that I didn't quite make the grade and easily fall back in to the old comfortable favourites to wear. I rarely wear make up and do not like the results when I do, especially wearing glasses makes it more challenging. (When I take off my specs it's difficult to see what's going on my face etc). I was a stay at home mom and now both of my sons have left home, so I think it's time for me to make more effort and feel more confident when I go out. If I decide to go out in the work force it would be nice to have some fashion skills along with work skills. I believe that we never stop learning and at age 62 I would love to learn how it feels to be a DIVA FOR THE DAY!!

My mom deserves a makeover because she works hard looking after four kids on a budget. She is 48 and works a minimum wage job at the local gas station. She never has any time to herself and I want to see my mom look as beautiful on the outside as I know she is on the inside. I think a makeover would boost my mom's self confidence and make her stand a little taller. My moms name is Michele Broome and we live in New Ross, Ns. When selecting a winner for this makeover please take my moms name into consideration. Thank you.

I would like to put my name in for the makeover. I am a busy mom of a 4 year old. Would love to have a chance to relax and be pampered. A makeover would be great to get me more up to date and in style.

I think my mother needs a make over..Debbie Wolfe deserve a makeover, she was a cargiver for my father for three years and he passed away Feb. 15 of this year. And a I went in the hospital a month after that, her son Mike Wolfe. So I think that she needs one.

The "mom" that I'm talking about really isn't my birth mother, but my adopted Mom! And I'm really not a person but a dog. I had the pleasure of meeting my "Mom" about 6 years ago and instantly fell head over heels in love with her. Her along with my "Dad" rescued me from a terrible life. I was constantly neglected, kicked around and was seldom left out of my kennel. I am now the King of the house and am immensely happy. I often think to myself, where would I be if I hadn't met them but thank my lucky stars that I did. My "Mom" does so much for me and my "Dad" and never does too much for herself. She works at a full-time job outside of the home and then comes home and works again. I know there are a lot of ladies out there that does that but my "Dad" is disabled and can not work outside the home anymore but he does help out around home when he is feeling up to it. I feel that my "Mom" truly deserves to be pampered and have a makeover. It would truly mean a lot to me and my "Dad" if you were to choose her to be that lady. I hope that when you select your Mom that the lady is my "MOM". Thank you for your time and we truly enjoy all the Lighthouse Publishing newspapers: The Lighthouse Log as well as Bridgewater Progress.

My mom (Ann Westhaver) is an amazing women. She has been through so much, stood strong through it all and I feel like she deserves this makeover the most. In 2005, my mom was a mother of 4, her husband passed away, she was left to raise her four children, dealing with the struggles of being a single parent and mourning the loss of her life partner, I couldn't even describe how strong my mother was at this time in her life, she pushed through helping her children along the way. At 40 years old my mom was one brave women and choose to have two more children, now a mother of six... if you think a having six children is crazy enough, lets add working full time and going to university full time. She is always been involved in the community, putting in hours upon hours of volunteer work. This past year she graduated university with a business degree. Now working full time and raising her family and dealing with the struggles that life brings along the way, it can ware on a person. I am so proud of my mom and I really think she deserves to be a "diva for the day" and just relax and get away from the everyday life things. My mom is a caring, strong, nurturing, wonderful women who would put anyone she loves first over herself, she deserves this makeover.

I would like to nominate my cousin and good friend Jillian Bowers for the Mother's Day diva for a day makeover. I don't think she really needs a makeover but a day of pampering would be a nice treat for her. The reason I am nominating her for this is because a little over two years ago she became a Mom for the first time to a beautiful baby boy Carson and unfortunately their story was more complex then that. They had a complicated birth and resulting in an emergency trip to the IWK immediately after birth only to discover he had kidney disease (one underdeveloped kidney) and due to the complications at birth his other kidney sustained permanent damage. Since Carson has been born they have spent more time living at the IWK then at their own home, and Jill has not been able to go back to work (she is an LPN). Carson spent the majority of his life hooked up to a dialysis machine for 14 hours a day which as any Mom would tell you it is very hard to entertain a child in a small room when they can't get up and go as they please. She has had to watch, worry, and wait as he has gone through countless surgeries and procedures (literary I have lost count!) Listen to her little boy cry for her as he knew that he would have to endure yet another procedure knowing there was nothing she could do because it was what she had to do to keep him alive. Every time the doctors said there was only a slight chance that something happen and then it did! Finally Carson was put on the Donor List and just before Christmas he was given the gift of life via a matching kidney. Now they are just starting to get settled into a new rhythm without the dialysis and weekly visits to the IWK. Carson has through it all remain a happy boy full of life and laughs, despite it all he always has a smile and laugh for you and that is thanks to his Mom for being strong enough to get them both through it. Now hopefully they can enjoy many healthy years together.

I believe my sister Deborah Beaver, deserves this makeover, She has been there for me before and ever since our mom has passed away, she will do anything for me that I need, she puts me and everyone else in her life first and does nothing for herself, she never goes anywhere unless it is for someone else, she will spend her last penny on one of us and buy nothing for herself, I have seen her not eat because there was only enough food for others I have seen her wear torn clothing because one of us needed something, I think someone who does that for her little sister, her daughter and her husband deserves some pampering for herself for a change she is like a mom to me and to many others please if you can see it in your heart to give her a day of pampering please do it would make my day to see her happy and being pampered she is the most caring and kind individual and I would lay down my life for hers even though she would for me first lol.

I think my mom should get to be diva for a day because she works hard everyday, and takes care of all of us and i think she deserves to have fun and feel beautiful without having to worry. I love her dearly, and she does so much for me. I just want to show my appreciation for the best mom ever.

My name is Sarah, I am 25 years and a mother of three. I have two baby boys and a baby girl who light up my life everyday. Like every mother of three I am busy and have no time for myself. I believe every mom deserves a makeover, for the love, devotion, dedication, selflessness, patience, forgiveness, generosity, and the overtime they put in everyday with no days off. I can't express into words what it would mean to me to have the opportunity to be a "diva for a day". I have been pregnant and/or breastfeeding for the past four years. My oldest is now four and my youngest is seven months which means I am still breastfeeding. I have chosen to breastfeed my children because it is natural and so healthy. It also means there is little help with night feeding, very few nights out and no me time. It would be like I was in heaven to be pampered for a day.
